Statistically Reading

Since 2013 is now half gone, I figure it’s time to do a final update on my 2012 reading. Har Har

My goal for 2012 was 50 books. I made that with mere minutes to spare, and although my final book was a very short story, it counts—in my book. Of those 50 books, ten were … well, here’s the statistical breakdown:

  • Total pages read: over 15122 pages! Boy my eyes were busy last year.
  • Number of books read: 50
  • Chunksters (over 450 pages): 8 (one book was one page shy of chunkster status and since it’s my list, I counted it as a chunkster).
  • Non-fiction: 6
  • Fiction: 44
  • Mystery: 31 (number is higher than normal because I was finishing the “Nero Wolfe” series)
  • Historical fiction: 4
  • Thriller/Spy: 5
  • Literary fiction: 4

Most of the 2012 books were good, a few were wretched, and then there were these seven outstanding books.

2012 Top Reads – in alphabetical order (and half of these were chunksters!)

  • Absolute Power by David Baldacci (chunkster)
  • A Family Affair by Rex Stout
  • Bridge of Scarlet Leaves by Kristina McMorris (chunkster)
  • The Doorbell Rang by Rex Stout
  • The House at Riverton by Kate Morton (chunkster)
  • Ice Hunt by James Rollins (chunkster)
  • Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
